I found this great product in Real Simple magazine: it’s called an Auto Tray Table. It can provide a place for your laptop over the steering wheel, or a tray in the backseat for coloring books or snacks. It folds up to 1.5 inches thick so it’s out of the way when not in use.

It’s really an ingenious little product! Ok, so products aren’t always the answer, but this one is the answer to not having a hard surface in the car! Of course, you’ll want to use while when you’re NOT driving…..
