An office floor is probably one of the most misunderstood restoration items in people’s home offices. These are fundamental to productivity and functionality, but then again very few pay attention to the material when having a flooring system installed. How do we make a home office appear more practical with flooring? What are the most recommended flooring options and which flooring systems should we avoid at all costs?
In small-sized home offices, bamboo works great. It is easy to install and click together because most homes have a cement sub-floor. However, the issue with bamboo is that it can be destroyed pretty easily by wheeled office chairs. To avoid this from happening, you might want to have a chair mat placed on the floor. Bamboo floors are excellent in homes, but in offices is wears down easily if you don’t take good care of the system. It is eco-friendly, long-lasting and durable; so if you want your bamboo floor to last for many years in perfect shape you might want to choose a different kind of office chair.
Laminate is not the most obvious choice when it comes to buying flooring systems for the home office. And yet sometimes it can work as it all depends on design and available space. If you want an overly spacious office, laminate floors may sound too shallow; however in small-sized spaces it might work just fine. Easy to install and with a thick underlayment, laminate is the best surface for a rolling office chair. It is durable and long-lasting too.
Most homes already have cement sub-flooring. But if you want your home office to have a more urban-like, minimalistic feel, you can easily go for an extra layer of cement flooring tiles. If the room feels too chilly and impersonal, you can always make it more comfortable with rugs and carpets. The greatest benefit of concrete is that it can be fixed in minutes if you crack it.
Homes decorated in an old-fashioned, antique style work best with hardwood floors. This material is incredibly durable and good-looking too. Your home office will look modern and chic, not to mention that solid wood comes in a wealth of designs. The variety of patterns and colors is endless; pick the one that best matches with your décor and transform your office into the most comfortable and interesting working space.
Ceramic tiles are yet another great flooring option for the home office. It wears extremely well and is quite long-lasting too. However make sure the tiles are installed properly otherwise they’ll become uneven, and this can interfere with your productivity. Cracked flooring systems are quite uncomfortable when sitting at a desk. If you’re particularly fond of natural stone tiles, you should know that these have different measurements. This means that they must be installed in “brick wall” style to hide any unforeseen differences.
Rubber is one of the greatest types of materials for flooring. It is resistant to intense foot traffic, durable, chemical-free and waterproof. It is also comfortable to the feet and versatile. Rubber is not an obvious flooring choice for a home office though; if you haven’t thought of it before, now it would be a great time to give it a chance.
Linoleum is also a great flooring type for a home office; but make sure to stay away from vinyl. It looks cheap and the designs available won’t create that modern, chic look everyone wants in their homes. Linoleum on the other hand, comes in a wide variety of interesting colors, designs and patterns; it is long-lasting and “green”, thus it might actually fit pretty well in a home office.
Engineered hardwood is a top flooring pick for home offices. It is made of real wood entirely, however it comes in layers. Available in a wealth of colors, patterns and designs, this type of flooring system comes in easy-to-install planks. Considering it is sealed, engineered hardwood requires little maintenance, and is quite long-lasting too.
Choose the best flooring option for your home office and convert your working nook into a comfortable and breathtaking space. Invest in quality and your floor will last for decades is excellent condition.
