Alec, I can see how you would feel that way. However, if you vow to clean off your desk at the end of the day, it won’t be a problem. Boundaries will help, and even eliminate that problem altogether.

Having suffered through a small computer desk, I agree that a large desk is the way to go! The best thing I have found for my needs is a 6 foot folding table. Plenty of desk space and great leg room. Plus, its much cheaper than anything with that amount of work space in the desk category. Sure, its not elegant, but it works great. Responding to Alec, yes a larger work space does give opportunity to make a mess. That is why you need to have a plan to be organized. I make use of hanging files to organize my paperwork and have a place for all of my accessories. Plus, I never end a day without cleaning off my desk. In the end, having the workspace is a greater benefit for me, so I make sure I keep it clean! Aha! Fold out fly-leaf table here I come! My credenza is under the window but I have a set of drawers and filing cabinet on the left of my desk and a table over those two would be a fabulous solution. Thank you thank you!

I think this is a really cool idea. I definitely like to spread out, but sometimes I feel like having a bigger desk gives me an excuse to be messy! I want to make sure that although I'm spreading my papers and appliances out that I still have enough storage to put things away when I'm finished. This post just made me think about my home office. Actually we have two of them. One for the adults and one for the kids. The kids office is a disaster and the adult office needs some better organization. I think I'll take a browse at your 101 tips and do a makeover project on both of those.
