Label & Find What You Need

31 Days of Home Office Organizing TipsTip #2: Labelling Is Your Friend

(Part of the 31 Days of Home Office Organizing Tips)

Oh, you can have cute boxes, bags and cabinets.  But what the heck is in them?  Imagine a stack of eight fabulous red letter boxes, and you’re looking for the one in the stack with your stationery.  If you looked in each of them, that’s 5 minutes of your life you’re never going to get back again.   Get the picture?

Labels = Time Saver.

Stack your boxes, buy the bags and stock your shelves.  Then, put labels on them so you’re not pulling your hair out while under a deadline or in a hurry.  You’ll save a few minutes each time, and get what you want in 5 minutes or less.  After all, isn’t that what it’s about?  (Take that, Hokey-Pokey!)

Bonus Tip: Head to your local craft store, and hit the scrapbooking aisle.  You’ll be amazed at the array of labelling choices!

I love, love, love when an organizing pro gives me permission to label everything ;-) . Seriously, it’s made my life so much easier (I’ve got labels on all the power adapters in my power cord box, for instance, ever since I used the wrong adapter on the scanner, there was a puff of smoke, a pop, and poof, dead scanner), but sometimes I feel like it’s a little too “kindergarten classroom” for a professional home office space. So, thank you for the permission, Brandie!

I’m putting together a new office at the moment (a 20×20 room–it’s fantastic, but so much more space than I’m used to), so I’m really focusing on organizing everything–I figure otherwise, with all that space, I’ll lose track of things. I’ll be following this series with rapt attention.

All my best,

Jessica

I’m glad to hear that! Labelling just makes things so darned easy to find. I hope you’ll consider sharing your new space with us when you’re ready. ;)

I particularly love labelling . How many people don’t label the cords when they set up a home theatre for instance? Or a new computer system with its peripherals? You go to move the equipment to a different room or house and problems arise trying to plug everything back in again. Label label label. Thanks for the tip on yummy scrapbooking labels!

I like labeling, but I like clear boxes better
