I am totally wanting to win this prize. I am a work-from-home and homeschooling mom of SIX KIDS. Our office isn’t just an office, it’s a school room, too. And my husband edits video on his computer, so our office is also an editing suite/screening room. I am a blogger and just started doing web design and a laptop is great for communicating with potential clients and live-blogging exciting playdates and birthday parties. Check out themost recent site I built. Plus, I just think you rock. So, I followed you on twitter, and retweeted your announcement and subscribed in my google reader. And, I am totally prepared to write about how much this awesome prize has affected my productivity, made me more organized, and helped me lose 30 pounds, win the lottery and reunite with my long list twin sister. Yeah- I can do that. But I’d be lying about the twin part. Unless it’s a twin that I don’t know about, in which case she’s still lost. But if anyone can track her down in under 6 months, it’s me. I wonder if she has kids. How could I not have known all these years? I knew I should have been calling my mother more often.

I’m trying to start up my own web design and it would be wonderful to have my own machine so I can work on that and be able to keep our main computer free for my kids or hubby. Plus, we’re talking about going over to England to visit my husband’s family and I would love to bring a computer with me to keep up on what’s going on during the trip. The shredder and printer would be wonderful to have too! What an awesome giveaway!! Thank You!

I totally need to win this contest!
As a recently divorced, single mother who has been unemployed since October 2008, I need to upgrade my home office to enable me to expand my web deign business. If I can build my business to the level where it can support my family, I could also begin homeschooling my adolescent children who have out-grown the public school choices available in our community. My children and I are ready to grow in new directions and chart our own course through this often regimented and demoralizing society. Help us break free of societal expectations and fulfill our goal!

OMG! I love this giveaway…okay, okay, why I should win…I think my PC is hamster powered first of all…I never buy anything for myself (being mother of 3 almost 4, who has time to buy for me anyways). They paper shredder would help us out alot. They don’t even offer costumer support for my printer anymore its “outmoded” they said. lol. I do my blog and I’m really tryin to get it off the ground. I have an end goal and feel like I’m still tryin to reach my goal using things that are very very outdated…my end goal is to make enough money using the PC and “home office” that I can stay home with all my lil ones. OMG would it be nice to not have to feed the hamster just to get online. (which is still dial up).

Donna K February 28, 2009 at 2:46 PM

I recently started my own home business. I have been blogging for less than a year, and I want to do more writing. The notebook would help me write “on the go”. The printer would be great for manuscripts. Then I could use the shredder to shred the refusal letters! I subscribed to your feed, and I would share my experience.

I am a freelance writer and jewelry maker. I’ve borrowed a b&w printer from a friend, but it’s getting older by the second! I vow to buy a shredder every time I have to tear up sensitive paperwork by hand. Scanning jewelry pieces is essential when I post items, and right now my scanner has some kind of fog on the glass that leaves the scan iffy at best. The software for the color printing part of my scanner is incompatible with windows Vista, so I can’t print color, make copies or fax at all. My weakest link in my home office system is backing up my work. First off, the DVD writer in my desktop is going bad and swirls until I have to reboot. This makes me hestiate to try a backup, so my work is in jeopardy. I would love to use the HP backup service. And who couldn’t use a laptop, especially when I am working with another person in the same room? As you can see, I’m running my home business on a wing and a Model T Ford prayer. Help!! :)

Wow what an awesome giveaway! I’d love to be able to win this prize. I have been doing freelance design in my part time since 2003 but this year I’m trying to expand. My mother retired and is looking for a way to make extra money so I’ve “hired” her to help with my business. I recently “expanded” to a small one-room home that has been vacant on her property, and we’ve turned that into the “studio”. She will be the Office Manager and really really needs a new computer. The Thinkpad she’s using right now is so old and out of date it crashes almost every time she tries to read email which makes it very hard to be productive. My husband’s job is hanging precariously in the balance, and I too have recently lost my “daytime” job (also doing design) so freelancing has to now become my full-time gig, and if I can’t make a go of it, I’m not sure what we’re going to do. I need to learn to streamline my business processes and be able to take on more clients so that I can make more income. And I have got to get away from so many giveaways (sometimes I’m too generous). I’m excited to work more with my mom, which is helpful in more ways than one because I can bring my brad new baby girl to work with me, my son can ride the bus home to Grandma’s, and I can even take the dogs to work (and just about anything else!) because I’m the “Boss Lady!” I’m currently in the process of redesigning my main website so that I may include more blog posts about the industry I work in and maybe even some design tutorials. I look forward to helping others! I’m also glad I found this site because of the great articles and helpful tips. I plan on putting some of the things I’ve learned here into action and can’t wait to read future posts! Thanks again for the generous offer!

I totally want and could use this prize. As a small business that is just family, we could use this little bit of help. The economy is hurting us but after 25 years in the field, we just dont want to give up. I went out on my own in 2005. We had a great 2006 and a great 2007 but 2008 made us wonder why… its hard to be your best for clients when you just cant afford some of the simple things, being the little guy in the big pond. We are in competion with big investigation agencies that say they give the same personal service we do.. but no one can match us.. I work the midnight hours if you will… and dont have time to be with my kids some days.. some of these items would give me that time.. I need a break but cant turn my back on the business i love… I give up the little things to keep moving.. but i need to also get with the times!!

Oh Brandie, this is the bomb! for 20 years I’ve been using a mac and would love to have a notebook so I can learn more about pc life and help my pc organizing clients (and perhaps play a little). I’ve also got 2 kids who will be in need of computers for schoolwork and would love it if their sticky little fingers stay off of my new Toshiba that OD will be sending my way. The shredder and printer/scanner/fax are total must haves and would be a huge plus to have in my office to make it run smooth as silk.
Of course I’m already gettin’ your blog and newsletter and tweet you.

I am a s@hm with 4 kids under 6 years old. I’ve been blogging as a hobby for 1.5 years and made it one of my 2009 resolutions to turn my hobby into a business. My goal is to build an online community of women who inspire, encourage and teach each other as we manage our homes, families and careers.

In addition to my fledgling blog business, my husband is considering leaving the corporate world and become a consultant. That would mean TWO small work-from-home businesses in my house. It would also mean we would need TWO laptops.

I have subscribed to your feed via Google Reader and would love to tell people my story! :) -

My small business is two different businesses going to the same cause. I am a non-profit small business person. All the money I raise or earn goes towards finding the cause & cure of childhood arthritis.

My 3 year old daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis on her 2nd birthday. She is medically controlled monthly by chemo treatments for the arthritis that has gone to her eyes (uveitis) & the arthritis in her joints. My business is to find a cure for my daughter & others like her.

1) I create headbands for little girls. Each headband is ribbon wrapped & adorned with flowers & gems or a bow. I sell locally at “parties” and online at etsy.com. At $10 a piece I earn enough to continue buying supplies, while giving proceeds to CARRA. In 2008, I was able to donate $1500 from the headbands to arthritis research.

2) This October will mark the 2nd annual CARRA Costume Ball. This is an event that I co-direct in October that brings families together to have a fun time dancing & playing games together, all while being in costume. When a child is diagnosed with arthritis, it affects the entire family. This event is a celebration of family & mobility. It relies on sponsorships & ticket sales. All the proceeds go towards CARRA.

Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) is a group of pediatric rheumatologists in the US & Canada working together in holding clinical trials & studies in finding a cure for children. This year, their goal is to have a national registry of diagnosed children in order to monitor their medications & their prognosis. For families like ours, this registry will be a beneficial tool in order to monitor children like Charlotte who are on such concentrated chemo drugs.

This prize of the laptop, the shredder and the amazing printer/fax would allow me to increase my marketing & advertising for my 2 endeavors. The headbands & the event solely RELY on marketing, contacts & education. To be able to have a more up-to-date family of products would be so beneficial (speed in a newer laptop is one thing that would be monumental in my efforts – right now, my computer is almost 8 years old & starts to hum if I leave it on overnight).

I love to share Charlotte’s story, our family story & my story about what my headbands & event that are FUN, beautiful & are for a great cause. The more that people understand about the #1 disabling disease in America, the more compassion & fight there will be to find a cure. Childhood arthritis is an autoimmune disease & can be treated with medications & can also go in remission medically. But a child with childhood arthritis will never fully “outgrow” it or be rid of it forever. They have to be proactive in their care for their eyes & their body for the rest of their lives.

I would love to win this prize! I would love to utilize it to continue & increase my endeavors to raise awareness & hope for a cause & cure to childhood arthritis.

I am registered to receive emails from HOME OFFICE ORGANIZER – and now I will put this entry on my blog as well. Sorry Brandie, I don’t twitter yet… but I will put it on facebook too! Will that count?!

Thank you for the opportunity! Best, Erika

As a grandmother having been recently lost my job as a financial aid counselor, I have always desired to write and publish. Being at home now has been a blessing in many ways even in light of these challenging economic times.
Writing and posting stories to my web site has been almost a much fun as spending more time with my grand daughter.
I have been free to take her to school, to volunteer at her school and attend her dance recitals.
Winning the lap top, the shredder and the printer would allow me to have a better computer to work on and to better organize my work space. I am a stickler for being organized.
Right now the computer we have is a desktop shared by myself, my daughter and my grand daughter.
My goal is to write about the cultures all over America through the eyes of the family. Within every culture there is a family unit that reflects the traditions and values of that culture.
My web site will offer stories from the perspective of Kitchen Table Wisdom focusing on the African American Family.
It is our values that determine our success in life. Thank you for the opportunity to share my comments.

Oh my goodness this is an amazing giveaway, I’m so super excited about it and I can’t wait to tell you why.

I’ve never been one to have any patience so about a month ago when my laptop totally died on me I was ready to go right out and buy another one right then and there. I work online after all I told myself, how was I going to live without my laptop? So off I went to the store and as I was looking around I realized that we just could not afford to buy another laptop at this time. Which wouldn’t have necessarily stopped me before but since I was laid off from my job a couple of years ago I have went through an amazing transformation in terms of slowing down and enjoying the simple life. While standing in that store a tiny voice told me to wait, this wasn’t the time for a new computer. So I’m waiting.

Now I’m wondering if this could be what I’ve been waiting for? I sure hope so. It would mean the world to me. I don’t own any of those products, no laptop, no printer, no shredder and no online storage (wish I knew about such things before I lost my laptop). I would put all of those things to good use and would be more than happy to tell the world about the difference they have made in my life.

And they will, I have no doubt of that.

Thanks so much!

Laura

I’ve been a police dispatcher for 22 years now. Over the years, I’ve come to realize there’s a large lack of classes available for police dispatchers, especially newly hired dispatchers. For the past five years, I’ve been an adjunct instructor for a school for police officers; I teach a class a few times a year in basic police dispatching. I’ve amassed enough material now that I feel I could start my own training school specifically designed for dispatchers in my area. I plan to offer classes for novice as well as veteran dispatchers. In law enforcement, training is mostly done via the “Avon method”; instructors typically come to the host department to teach classes. A reliable laptop is one of the most important tools for teaching. I currently borrow a laptop when I teach the classes I do now; I’ll need one of my own when I start my own school. The printer will replace the cranky ink-jet I have now so that I can print hand-outs, brochures, and billing, scan materials for class notebooks, and fax information when needed.

I think we all have compelling stories and everyone deserves to win.

I would love to win this package! I’ve been in business for a couple years now. I started my Virtual Assistant business as a way to be home with my son. As a single mom it’s not always easy to fork out the money for new business equipment such as a computer and printer!

My desktop computer is only a year old but it keeps crashing and every time that happens it has to be set back to factory settings which anyone that’s had to do that knows you lose everything, all your settings, documents, etc. The most recent crash that happened only a few weeks ago was the 4th time in 3 months.

Winning this prize package would help me continue to build my business. It’s a necessity to have a good reliable working computer and as mentioned above mine hasn’t been all that reliable lately. I also have a non reliable laptop. It was given to me a couple months ago but unfortunately it’s given out and I can’t do any work on it anymore. It freezes up, several of the letters on the keyboard don’t work and it recently started shutting off for no apparent reason. I keep waiting for the day my desktop computer crashes but can’t be fixed…kind of a scary thought especially because the ‘back up’ laptop is no longer in working condition either.

This prize package would help ease the financial burden of a new computer and printer (which my printer just recently stopped working and I haven’t replaced it as of yet) and help me focus on other business related purchases that need to be made as well.

I’m subscribed to your blog via my Google reader and I’ll retweet your Twitter update about the contest.

I make jewelry, and for many years I’ve had an idea tucked inside my head for a small business selling my items that I’m finally ready to develop. I have raised two teenagers (one is in college now and one will be headed that way after she graduates next year), taken in one homeless 19 year old and got her through high school and into college, rescued and placed a WHOLE LOT of Miniature Pinschers (I kept 3 of those rescued MinPins for myself), and now I’m working on on foster and adopting a 6-8 year old child . I figure if I can juggle these things and still survive with my mind intact, then I’m finally ready to tackle my own home business. It is time for me to take my handiwork public and see if the rest of the world loves my jewelry as much as my friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and the folks in the 3 volunteer groups I work with love it.

It would be so awesome to win the Startup Kit! I have been searching for at least 10 years for a way I could do what I love, homemaking, and stay home with the kids, but still make money. The last couple of years I have wanted to start a website to do just that. This past week, after many road blocks, my site is up and running.
My home office, to say the least, is in desperate need of a upgrade. Our desktop computer is about 8 years old and it’s very difficult to work on.
Thank you so much for the giveaway!

I recently moved to a smallish town that doesn’t have toomany jobs in my field. I have decided that a good way to earn money is to become a consultant. My field is fundraising and special events. To start my consulting business I need good equipment that will help me grow. I am excited to be able to begin this business because I love doing special events. It gets my creative juices going and I love the details and coordination of doing an event. My reward of a job well done is always an event that goes well and brings money into the organization I am helping. THanks for the giveaway.

Follow your dreams … they know the way. – Kobi Yamada

I escaped a monotonous day-to-day routine after 18 years and I’m never going back! It was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Leaving the security of a steady income at 50 is scary, nevertheless, I thank my lucky stars that FEAR no longer stands in the way of pursuing my passion of home staging and redesign.

About now you’re thinking: home staging in this market, is she crazy? Maybe, but then don’t you have to be a bit on the “boundary” to be self-employed? Frankly, I look at it this way – if one waits for the perfect moment, it will never appear.

My office equipment includes a hand-me-down 1999 desktop computer and a black and white printer. Winning the Small Business Startup Kit would be so liberating. The laptop would allow me to work somewhere other than the tiny walk-in closet that acts as my office. Moreover, I could take the laptop to my appointments and show prospective clients before and after slide show presentations. And the printer – color – what a luxury! All I can say is the technology prize would make such a difference to the growth of my new business.

Competition is considerable in this contest! Pick me … please! : – )

Sherri March 1, 2009 at 9:49 AM

Hi Brandie,
I would love, love, love to win this prize… I have written you before about becoming a professional organizer … due to my love of furniture moving and creating simplified, calming spaces that “work” for people… as I got through the training this would be perfect to get started! As a native Detroiter formerly working in the automotive industry and being laid off after 22 years there, it’s time to follow my passion and have a CAREER versus a JOB… I also recently lost my 12 year-old son to a custody battle in which he chose to move with his father to Brazil (his dad’s company transferred him)… I started my first blog following his experience and to keep myself from going out of my mind missing him and blaming myself for his move… Having a new sense of direction, pursuing my dream will make him proud – and this prize would catapult that!!!

God bless you for all you do – your podcasts and blog are an inspiration.

Greetings! Thanks so much for the giveaway! I’d love to win because I’ve been working on getting my freelance writing career to really take off for the last year and a half. My laptop is over two years old and super-buggy, and I’m sharing a small printer AND study with my dear husband.

I’d love to have a new laptop so that I can expand the services that I want to offer, including multimedia presentations and social media consulting. At the moment my current notebook doesn’t handle heavy files very well, including graphics-heavy files, and they’re critical to the products and services that my clients are clamoring for. I’m a big supporter of small businesses, particularly businesses run by women and minorities (as I’m a minority woman myself), and want to be able to take my new equipment out and market myself both on- and offline to clients in that demographic. Being mobile and having a dedicated printer and shredder are so important to the kind of business that I envision creating.

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Marjorie

I want to win this contest because I’ve had such a struggle in getting my business off the ground. I started my business as a parent educator and coach to help parents better deal with and support the lives of their teens and pre-teens. These tools would help make my business more mobile and I can do more presentations in schools and other communities who desperately need my help. I am also in the process of writing a book about parenting teens, and these tools would be so great as my printer is old and constantly needs new ink, computer has been around a while too. They’ve served me well, and I feel like this better technology can both help me and this fledgling business of mine.

Thanks for considering me, and please, please PICK ME!!!!

This is a great contest! This setup would be perfect for me, I am trying to expand my blog to offer other services, like digital scrapbooking for others, and the supplies to do it would be such a help!

I would like to win this for Amy. We found Amy advertising on craigslist for holiday help and we could only afford minimum wage. College educated, young, smart, and jobless with a beautiful daughter to raise. Her husband recently was furlowed from his job for at least 30 days. Given the economy, it’s possible that will turn into a longer term layoff.

Keeping our organization lean and mean in this economic time is something we focus on every day. And every day we ask ourselves how we could develop a platform to employ more people. Amy is one such person we would like to be able to support with our business on a full time basis.

By combining your wonderful items, with a commitment to employment for Amy, we would change a life forever. That so familiar knot in the stomach would ease a bit for everyone in her family and one more person would be pulled from the economic wreckage.

Our story – it’s all about the unused and forgotten. Blending leftover fabrics that were set aside to be trashed with recycled plastic and a bit of artistic flair, we have found a niche in the ladies handbag market. Starting out in China Jasmine started making products for herself – and when others started asking how they could get one – the idea blossomed into a full fledged business. Now, 3000 handbags later, we continue to grow the business – one customer at a time.

So both in terms of product and people we find the unused gem, the forgotten asset, and turn it back into something beautiful – this transformation – and the contrast between what things were and what they are is what brings us pleasure every day and keeps Naturally Knotty going.

Thank you for your consideration.

Jasmine

Oh, this would make my life so much easier! I design and write knitting patterns as well as homeschooling four out of six of our children. I’ve been printing my patterns on a lame, over a decade old printer that doesn’t work every time. This whole package would help me increase my distribution. Thank you!

WOW! What a great contest! Everyone wrote such compeling andvery deserving stories. I kind of feel like a fish out of water here. I don’t know how to scan and I don’t know what blogging is. I don’t have my own website. I do however have a dream of developing myself and my skills as a sales person and becoming financially independent. I have taken my laptop in the field with me before. One time I was in the middle of a presentation and we had to move from the conference room we were in to another area so I paused my presentation and was moving to with my laptop open to another spot and while I was relocating I tripped over a mat on the floor and not only landed face first on the floor but my laptop fell as well. The keyboard was damaged and the upper right hand corner needs repair. I have been using it anyway but it not very professional when I am giving presentations and the keys are broken. I use my shredder all the time and soon it will need to be replaced. This is a very generous giveaway. Good luck to everyone!

My family and I have just recently moved from Alaska to Indiana in an attempt to get away from the long winters. About a month after moving here, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After too long of time in the ICU at the hospital, he came home with his insulin which he needs to inject himself with at least 6 times a day. That sent me on a mission to find items for a low carbohydrate meals so that it would lessen his body’s need for insulin injections. Seafood in particular is low carb., high protein food. After searching for some time to try to find some seafood that was not farm raised, or was of quality that didn’t cost twice market value, I decided to open my own business. Being a stay at home dad, I felt this was the best way to be able to take care of my children’s needs, as well as add a little extra income to the household.

Starting on March 9th, 2009, North Shore Seafoods will open up In Lafayette, Indiana providing quality Alaskan and exotic seafood at fair market value. We will be offering home delivery on a retail basis, as well as pursing wholesale business.

All of the office equipment will be much needed items as our start-up costs are soaring, and the costs of my sons prescriptions stay at around $300-$400 per month after the insurance pays their part.

Even if I don’t win, I have enjoyed participating and getting the chance to share my story, and am congratulating the winner in advance.

I would welcome any advice that entrepreneurs out that might have to offer me.

Best Regards to all,

Lenny Patterson
