Ok, this is me. I admit it. I love an organized home but I am more obsessed with the containers than actually doing the work. So I often start my projects in the store, wandering around just as you said buying all the nifty containers. The containers come home and sit there looking oh-so-pretty, but empty. :-0 Eesh. This is not always the case, but more often than I'd like to admit. As with most things in life, you have to do the work to get the results! Containers don't solve problems. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas! You'll probably see a blog on my site soon referencing your ideas. You've inspired me!
Keep up the good work, Brandie!

Right on Sisters! I always say, first you gotta know what you need! I start with sorting and then edit as we go.

I find clients are less likely to let go till they realize they have 65 pairs of jeans! Then I get them to set a limit on the quantity or the space (e.g., 1 drawer, 1 foot of closet space, etc.) Then pic their favorites till they reach their quota.

When people look at things one at a time, they often want to keep everything! : )

Hi Jessica,
So true! I love the Purge, Sort, Containerize, Organize - that's the process! I guess there is a little part in all of us that is looking for the magic pill to slenderize, beautify and organize us - but honestly - I think it's the work that gets us where we want to be. :)

I always tell my clients to MEASURE FIRST, BUY SECOND! There's nothing worse than coming home with something that is just a scant inch too short or too long!

But I think you are right, many people feel they will get organized by proxy. If they buy this widget or that organizing book, just by HAVING it, they will magically become organized.

PURGE first, SORT second, CONTAINERIZE third ORGANIZE last.

Anxiety over their situation causes people to try and reverse this order and it just doesn't work that way.

thanks for your great idea!
